# Footer

How to configure footer columns, mobile accordions, and the Subfooter utility row.

Sections in the footer group render on every page. Analog includes "Footer", a grid of content columns, and "Subfooter", a utility row for copyright, secondary links, locale selectors, and payment icons. The default preset puts a Custom section with a logo marquee between them. Both sections default to `scheme-opposite`. See [color](/core-concepts/color.md).

## Footer columns

The Footer section is a grid with up to six "Footer column" blocks. Each column can contain link lists, rich text, a newsletter form, social icons, theme blocks, or app blocks. Title styling is set once on the Footer section and applies to every column.

## What goes in a column

| Block                                     | What it does                                                           |
| ----------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Footer links (`_footer-link-list`) | One level of a navigation menu. Dropdown items do not show |
| Follow on Shop (`_footer-follow-on-shop`) | Shopify's Follow on Shop button, when the store supports it |
| Theme blocks | Any theme block: text, rich text, newsletter signup form, social links |
| App blocks | Blocks from installed apps |

The Social links block reads the account URLs from the theme's "Social links" settings, so one list feeds every social block in the theme.

## Block titles

Each Footer column has a "Title". The Footer section sets its "Color", "Text style", and custom typography for every column.

## Columns and the grid

The grid uses equal columns by default. Three columns make three equal tracks. Turn on Layout › "Set column grid" to set 1–6 tracks for "Desktop" and "Tablet". Each Footer column then gets "Desktop" and "Tablet" span settings. A newsletter column can span two tracks while a link list spans one. Columns always stack on mobile.

## Mobile accordions

"Enable mobile accordion" is on by default for each column. "Expand initially" opens the column on page load. "Show top border" adds a divider above it, which is useful for the first accordion since each one already has a bottom divider. Columns are always open on desktop and the toggle is hidden. The icon uses the theme's accordion button style.

## The subfooter

Subfooter renders the shop name linked to the home page, the current year, and the links from "Link list". Locale selectors appear at the other end:

* "Show language selector" with a "Style" of "Long" or "Short". It renders only when the store publishes more than one language.
* "Show country selector" with "Country display" (name, symbol, and flag combinations) and "Currency display". It renders only when the store sells to more than one country.

A second row appears when "Show payment types" or "Show social icons" is on: payment icons for every payment method enabled on the store, and the social links with their own "Icon size" setting.

{% hint style="info" %}
There is no setting for the "Powered by Shopify" link. To remove it, delete the code between the two comments in the Subfooter section.
{% endhint %}

## Recipes

### The classic four-column footer

Use the section's built-in preset with two link lists, a story, and a signup column:

* Footer column 1 › Title: "Main menu", with a Footer links block › Link list: "Main menu"
* Footer column 2 › Title: "Quick links", with a Footer links block › Link list: "Footer menu"
* Footer column 3 › Title: "About", with a Rich text block
* Footer column 4 › Title: "Stay connected", with Newsletter signup form and Social links blocks

### A newsletter-led footer on a custom grid

Use "Set column grid" to give the signup column double width:

* Footer › Layout › Set column grid: on
* Footer › Layout › Desktop: 5
* Footer › Layout › Tablet: 3
* Footer column "Stay connected" › Columns › Desktop: 2
* Footer column "Stay connected" › blocks: Text, Newsletter signup form, Social links

### A full utility subfooter

Use the Subfooter selectors and icons for a complete utility row:

* Subfooter › Links › Link list: "Footer menu"
* Subfooter › Payment types › Show payment types: on
* Subfooter › Language selector › Show language selector: on
* Subfooter › Language selector › Style: "Long"
* Subfooter › Country/Region selector › Show country selector: on
* Subfooter › Country/Region selector › Country display: "Flag and country name"
