# Search

How to configure predictive search, suggested content, and the filterable search results page.

Search has a predictive flyout and a results page. The flyout updates while the shopper types. The results page shows the submitted query in a filterable grid. Both use the suggested search content from theme settings.

## Flyout and results page

Use the flyout for quick results while typing. Use the results page to browse all matches. The results page has the same toolbar, filters, sorting, grid toggle, and pagination as a collection page. Configure the search buttons in the header sections, suggestions in theme settings, and the results page in the Search section.

## Where search opens

Search buttons live in the header sections, and each opens the same flyout:

The Menu button has a "Show on" device setting ("Mobile", "Desktop", "Both") and a "Mobile position" setting ("Left", "Right"). The Toolbar button is desktop only and appears at the right end of the bar. Menu drawer shows an inline search field instead of a button.

## The flyout

The flyout opens from the top of the screen and focuses the input. Results update after a short pause. It shows up to 20 results, grouped as query suggestions, Products, Pages, Articles, and Collections. Matched text is bold. Arrow keys move from the input into the results. Enter and "View all results" submit the query to the results page.

When a query matches nothing, the flyout says so and falls back to the suggestion content below.

## Suggest content before the query

Two settings under Theme settings › Search fill the flyout before the shopper types:

* "Suggested searches": a comma-separated list of terms ("New, Archive sale, Most popular"), each rendered as a tappable search. "Title" sets the heading above the list.
* "Collection" under "Empty state collection": up to ten products from a collection you pick, shown before a query and again when a query has no results.

## The results page

The Search section renders the form, a status line ("N results for …"), and the results grid. The query stays editable and a clear button appears when the input has text. Enable "Show suggested searches" to show the terms from theme settings as buttons before a search and when a search returns no results.

Matching articles and pages render in the same grid as products. A query can show a size guide beside the products it describes.

## Filtering, sorting and the grid

The results page uses the collection page's toolbar, filter sidebar or drawer, sort select, grid toggle, and pagination. See [Collection pages](/features/collection.md) for their behavior. The Search section has matching "Controls", "Filters", "Results grid", and "Products per page" settings. Filters keep the current search query.

Use the theme's "Search" settings to fill the flyout before the first keystroke:

* Theme settings › Search › Suggested searches › Title: "Suggested Searches"
* Theme settings › Search › Suggested searches: "New, Archive sale, Most popular"
* Theme settings › Search › Empty state collection › Collection: your best sellers
